Transfer Model in Arizona: Pathways for Transfer
There are six different pathways* you may follow, depending upon the degree you choose to pursue. Below you will find each component of the pathway described:
| AA (Associate of Arts) / General Requirements | AA/GR |
| AA (Associate of Arts) / Special Requirements | AA/SR |
| AS (Associate of Science) / General Requirements | AS/GR |
| AS (Associate of Science) / Special Requirements | AS/SR |
| ABus (Associate of Business) / General Requirements | ABus/GR |
| ABus (Associate of Business) / Special Requirements | ABus/SR |
| TG (Transfer Guide) / Exceptional requirements | TG/XR |
Each of these pathways require 60-64 credits in courses numbered 100 or above to be completed with a grade of "C" or better. The courses can satisfy a Core Area (no more than one) and one or two Awareness Areas simultaneously.
Benefits of Completing a Pathway
If you complete a pathway, you will:
- have Junior standing upon being admitted to an Arizona university
- be certain that all credits included in the pathway will apply toward graduation in the baccalaureate majors with which the pathway articulates
- be able to compete for admission into competitive programs on the same basis as native university students
In addition, completing a pathway will benefit you in the following ways:
- Blocks of classes will be treated as a whole; courses will not be examined separately to determine transferability or applicability unless it is for student benefit
- Transfer credits are accepted and applied toward the university degree, whether the credit was earned by
- course complete (with a grade of "C" or better),
- assessment, or
- some other nontraditional learning mode.
- Provides for exemption from Arizona public university admission requirement (2.0 for Arizona residents; 2.5 for non-residents)
AA/GR
This pathway:
- is designed for students who plan to transfer into majors that articulate with the AA/GR pathway;
- is designed for students who may or may not know their major or university;
- includes common lower-division program requirements, though it is not mandatory to complete these prior to transfer.
AA/SR
This pathway:
- is designed for students who plan to transfer into majors that articulate with the AA/SR pathway;
- is designed for students who have decided on a major but have not decided which university to attend;
- includes common lower division program requirements;
- requires students to select a major by the completion of the first year of study (30 credits).
AS/GR
This pathway:
- is designed for students who plan to transfer into majors that articulate with the AS/GR pathway;
- is designed for students who plan to pursue an Associate degree or transfer to an Arizona university and satisfy requirements in majors with more stringent mathematics and mathematics-based science requirements;
- is designed for students who, during the first semester (15 credits), choose to pursue degrees with science concentration even though they are undecided on a major but decided on a university;
- includes common lower-division program requirements, though it is not mandatory to complete these prior to transfer;
- includes lower-division mathematics and mathematics-based requirements.
AS/SR
This pathway:
- is designed for students who plan to transfer into majors that articulate with the AS/SR pathway;
- is designed for student who plan to pursue as Associate degree or transfer to an Arizona university and satisfy requirements in majors with more stringent mathematics and mathematics-based science requirements;
- is designed for students who, during the first semester, choose to pursue degrees with science concentrations and have decided on a major but undecided on a university;
- requires students to complete common lower division program requirements;
- requires students to select a major by the completion of the first year of study (30 credits).
ABus/GR
This pathway:
- is designed for students who have decided on a business major (except Accountancy and Computer Information Systems), but are undecided about a university;
- includes common lower division courses;
- requires students to complete specific University lower division program requirements.
ABus/SR
This pathway:
- is designed for students who have decided on a major in Computer Information Systems, but are undecided about a university;
- includes common lower division courses;
- requires students to complete specific University lower division program requirements.
TG/XR
Students must follow the Transfer Guide from the beginning because they have a decided on a university and a major in which:
- the sequence of program requirements or prerequisites is so strict that a student must begin the sequence in the freshman year
OR
- the major is structured as a 2+2 transfer degree program between a community college and a university.

degrees with identified transfer pathways offered by Arizona's public
universities.
* Please Note - Students who have completed an Associate's of Applied Science
(AAS Degree)
should look at the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) document as well as
the pathways mentioned on this page.
